Every club has an address. For 2025, Brunswick City's was printed across the front of the shirt.
We put a map of Melbourne's north on the kit. The streets and suburbs the club's players and families come from, running over the whole shirt. Somewhere in there is Dunstan Reserve, the club's home ground. It isn't labelled. If you know where to look, you can find it.
Leonidas
To understand the kit, start with the crest. Brunswick City was founded in 1970 by Greeks in the area, and a lot of them came from Sparta. So the club took the name of Sparta's most famous king. It's on the crest in Greek: ΛΕΩΝΙΔΑΣ. Leonidas.
That history matters, and it isn't going anywhere. But a club in Brunswick today is more than the families who started it. Players and supporters come from everywhere.
Closer to home
The map started with my daughter Ava, who now shoots most of our photos. Her idea was a kit with a map of Greece on it. A nod to where the club's founders came from.
I loved it. But I asked her: why don't we look closer to home? Do a map of Brunswick.
Brunswick grew into the whole of Melbourne's north. The streets the players live on. The roads they drive down to training. The ground they call home. Greece was already on the shirt, in the crest. The map would be about where the club is now.
The crest says where the club came from. The map says where it is.
Home and away
Home was deep club blue with the map traced in electric blue. Away was white with the map in pink. Same streets, same crest, and on both of them, the ground.

The reaction
Everyone loved it. But the reaction that stuck with me came from the players and families who aren't Greek. They told us the jersey felt like it represented them too. All of the community, not one part of it.
That's what a kit can do when it's designed around a club instead of picked out of a catalogue. A template can't know where your ground is. It can't know who your club is for.
Look closely at the shirt. Find the ground. That's home.
NO VANILLA.
